Park Place Congregational - United Church of Christ

Deacons

The Deacons in the Congregational church guide the spiritual and missionary direction of the congregation.  A Deacon is not an ordained position, however, one must have actively attended and served the congregation for one year before serving on the Diaconate. Terms are for usually three years.

What do the Deacons do?

Deacons are responsible for working with the pastor to ensure the flow and constancy of the various services;

To recruit congregants to serve in various parts of the service: ushers, greeters, readers, Laity Sunday ministers, etc.;

To set up and serve communion;

To be active in community ministries: sponsoring a needy family; coordinating charitable activities; working for justice;

To pray for the needs of congregants and anyone who makes a request;

To ensure that all church activities are for the spiritual good of the congregation.
